Hope the lad is doing as well as he can.Batley_white wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 5:27 pm Read into it what you will but my mate and his son who has cancer have been at Thorpe Arch today and met everyone, Gnonto gave him a set of his boots - He said don't go to Everton mate - he just laughed, Cooper said hes not interested in Saudi, Adams is bang up for the season and wants to fight all the way, Bamfords a cripple, 4 signings to come and we will be impressed by the quality of them, Meslier went to sign his shirt and dropped the fucking pen lol
Rest sounds good on the club news front.

It's not just Twitter. Most of WACCOE have already declared them no better than the last lot, potless chancers, incompetent and other things. Some of which is way over the top and just completely false on some of the lines being trotted out over there.Rick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 4:24 pmAye, this window is a balancing act of being proactive and reactive. Pointless judging the board til window shuts. If by then the squad is in good shape great, and if not questions will be asked.Schwantz34 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 3:49 pmThey might have to weigh up just saying hell with it though and risking it to spend before the end of the window. Might mean missing out on who Farke wants otherwise.
Of course there will be lists of top targets at each position he's asked for, so in theory should still be able to bring in what he wants if we do wait.
It'll just keep people on the doom train if they wait. I'll wait to see where we are when that window shuts before declaring the 49ERs incompetent like some fans around are.
As an aside I just had to edit that a few times for a lot of spelling mistakes. My God the damn phone keypad destroys my typing
I can understand the pessimism, we've been condition this way over the years. But no way is the current situation indicative of these guys just trying to do it on the cheap, which I've seen mentioned on Twitter a fair bit. They wouldn't be having meetings about expanding ER already otherwise. Plus their other franchise wasn't done on the cheap.
Farke said in his first interview the squad will look very different at the end of the window and that he's being backed in the market. Still a month to go.
I highly doubt all incomings will be loans so the fact Farke keeps saying they're working on players doesn't suggest we're skint and neither does what we shelled out on Ampadu. Also if it was cheap stop gap players you'd imagine they'd be in by now so the quality of players we're looking at I think will be good.
They've had a mess to clear from Radz and while they played some part in that, he had overall say as the majority owner so how much power to make decisions did they really have I wonder? Or were they more just Radz cash help and largely left him to it? Interesting if we ever get to find out.

I think Marathe's first interview a couple of weeks ago was pretty telling. Pretty much said the last lot fucked up and he had limited power to prevent it, though he "observed and learned" from it. The new structure and additions behind the scenes to "prevent footballing decisions residing with one person", suggests this to be true. Then a few hours later Radz went on Sky saying he fucked up trusting Orta.Schwantz34 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:12 pm It's not just Twitter. Basically sounds like Radz gave Orta all the power and Orta did not like resistance from anyone, otherwise he'd have a pissy fit (even threatened to walk if Marsch went). Therefore I doubt 49ers were allowed much influence over on-field matters, though tried to intervene a few times with little sucess (friction in the boardroom over Rutter signing, and they apparently contacted Bielsa about returning). Orta's position seemed untenable once full takeover was round the corner.
Seems like a bit of a power struggle went on here. Fresh slate for them as they're fully behind the wheel now.

Sounds similar too what Dorigo said about 3-4 signings.Batley_white wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 5:27 pm Read into it what you will but my mate and his son who has cancer have been at Thorpe Arch today and met everyone, Gnonto gave him a set of his boots - He said don't go to Everton mate - he just laughed, Cooper said hes not interested in Saudi, Adams is bang up for the season and wants to fight all the way, Bamfords a cripple, 4 signings to come and we will be impressed by the quality of them, Meslier went to sign his shirt and dropped the fucking pen lol

Also, I doubt the club would let Dorigo keep saying we want 3 or 4 signings in if it wasn't on the cards. He's their employee, they'd tell him to button it otherwise so not to increase fan expectations.Hampshirewhites wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:05 pm

That's almost 100% my view as well on it not sounding like they had a huge amount to do with last season, other than injecting some cash.Rick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:42 pmI think Marathe's first interview a couple of weeks ago was pretty telling. We will see how it all plays out but I do think long term we'll be better off.
Also we have the right Manager. His first promotion with Norwich was with a team not expected to be anywhere near promotion as I recall and less quality than we have now especially on the forward areas.
Chuck in the 3-4 good additions we keep hearing about and we'll only be getting stronger as a squad that's already on paper far better than most in the division when you look around.
Looking forward to the season anyway.

Farke said we're still in talks with Byram so I think it's unlikely we see him play a part Sunday.
